Sapphire Specimen

Sapphire, a type of corundum, come in every color imaginable. Except for red since a red sapphire is known as a ruby. Sapphires are the second hardest mineral in the world, right behind diamonds coming in at a 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Known historically as a stone of royalty by the early Christian kings, a stone of foresight by the Greeks, spiritual enlightenment by the Buddhists, or worship by Hindus. It is also the birthstone for September. 

This particular sapphire exhibits a bichroic color scheme and is quite clear. A truly beautiful collector  quality specimen.
